Instant Pirate Costume: Crochet Eyepatch

Amigurumi Projects

Hypothetically speaking, let’s say you’re on a boat in the middle of the Mediterranean sea and you’re invited to a pirate party (not in the political sense).  While I like to travel prepared for most common emergencies, impromptu pirate parties are not one of them.  However, if you happen to have a bit of yarn with you, you can whip up an eyepatch in just a few minutes:

Here’s the pattern, using black yarn and a size F/3.75mm crochet hook:

  1. ch 16
  2. turn, sc 15 (15)
  3. ch 1, turn, sc 14, sl st (15)
  4. ch 1, turn, skip sl st, sc 13, sl st (14)
  5. ch 1, turn, skip sl st, sc 12, sl st (13)
  6. ch 1, turn, skip sl st, sc 11, sl st (12)
  7. ch 1, turn, skip sl st, sl st, sc 9, sl st (11)
  8. ch 1, turn, skip sl st, sc 9, sl st (10)
  9. ch 1, turn, skip sl st, sc 8, sl st (9)
  10. ch 1, turn, sc 8, sl st (9)
  11. ch 1, turn, skip sl st, sc 8 (8)
  12. sl st all the way around to round the edges (go around twice if the patch is too small for you)
  13. embroider on details as you like (crossbones above made with a series of x’s in white yarn): make sure you know what side you want to wear the patch on before you add details as it isn’t symmetric

Add a string of yarn to hold the eyepatch on, tie a sash or scarf around your head, and you’re a pirate!  Suitable for boat emergencies, Hallowe’en costumes, or anytime you feel like running around yelling ‘Aarrr’.
